Mine Tours

The John Horgan Dam and Generating Station (formerly Site C) and Nááchę mege reservoir (Dreamer Lake)

Full day excursion to site, transportation, lunch, snacks and refreshments during the day. 

8:30am - 4:30pm (estimated)

Full PPE required, including safety vest, steel toed footwear, hard hat, safety goggles or prescription glasses. 

Description: 

BC Hydro will host a tour of reclamation works at the The John Horgan Dam and Generating Station (formerly Site C) and Nááchę mege reservoir (Dreamer Lake) on the outskirts of Fort St John.  The tour will include a review of physical reclamation and planting conducted at the aggregate borrow area next to the dam site.

  • The morning tour will include a review of physical reclamation and planting conducted at temporarily disturbed construction areas adjacent to the damsite

  • The afternoon will be a tour of the new reservoir and reclamation of sections of the relocated HWY29

Conuma Mine Tour - Tuesday, September 22, 2026

Details: 

Full day excursion to site, transportation, lunch, snacks and refreshments during the day. 

6:30am - 6:00pm (estimated)

Full PPE required, including safety vest, steel toed footwear, hard hat, safety goggles or prescription glasses. 

Description: 

The Mine Tour includes stops at Wolverine Mine, where we’ll look at a range of reclamation topics such as soil amendments, some of the practical challenges with agronomics, and approaches to tying mineworks back into the natural landscape.

Following Wolverine Mine, we will stop at the Hermann Property to discuss an ongoing fertilizer research trial, including observations on how similar treatments can lead to different outcomes depending on site conditions.

Finally, we will stop at Quintette Mine’s legacy tailings storage facility, where we can walk through aspects of closure planning and long-term considerations.
